Covid Safety Measures:  Face masks are required for everyone, regardless of vaccination status. To allow for adequate social distancing and depending on the local Covid situation, only 80-100 customers will be admitted to the sale at a time.

Selection:  Over 250,000 gently used books, comics and graphic novels, DVDs, CDs, puzzles, games, and other items donated by community members, organized into 70+ subject categories, including over 40,000 items in the Children’s Section.  The Collector’s Corner offers rare and antiquarian books, first editions, collectible vinyl records, artwork, vintage toys and games, and more.  Shoppers should be sure to check out the “Category Defiers” section, which offers an eclectic selection of books by favorite authors who write about varied subjects, such as Bill Bryson, Mark Kurlansky, and John McPhee, as well as many “reference” books on the strange, curious, erroneous, and wildly improbable.

Highlights of this Sale:  A special display will feature fall and winter holiday–themed books, puzzles, DVDs, CDs, and vinyl record albums, as well as gift books and items. This summer the Friends received a large donation of more than 1,000 books in Russian, including history, poetry, historical fiction, and dictionaries, which may be found in the Foreign Language section. Thanks to other donations, shoppers will find twice as many comic books and graphic novels as usual at the fall sale.

First Weekend Purchase Limits:  In order to serve as many book lovers as possible, on the first weekend each shopper may purchase a maximum of 25 items at a time on Saturday, Oct. 9, and

50 items at a time on Sunday, Oct. 10.  After checking out, customers must leave the building, but may re-join the line to come in again.

Prices drop daily on the second and third weekends, starting Saturday 10/16.

Proceeds from the Book Sale fund the Friends of the Library’s annual grants that support Tompkins County Public Library and other libraries in the Finger Lakes region, as well as local non-profit organizations for literacy and reading projects, and scholarships for library science students.
