ITHACA, N.Y.—The Ithaca location of Moe’s Southwest Grill, a popular burrito spot, has closed, leaving Tompkins County lacking a nearby option for gigantic burritos with cuttingly accurate names like “the Homewrecker.”

The South Meadow Square restaurant, listed at 324 Elmira Road, had been closed for several days without much warning, though its Google listing does say “temporarily closed.”

A spokesperson from Moe’s corporate office confirmed the closing, stating that the decision was made on a franchise level. It is not clear who the franchisee is, and the spokesperson did not disclose the information.

“Unfortunately, that location closed because of a decision made by its franchisee and has no plans to reopen at this time,” said the spokesperson. “Most of our locations are independently owned and operated by individual franchisees. We do apologize for the inconvenience and hope that a location opens soon in your area to better serve our customers.”

Winter has been particularly cold for local fast-food restaurants, with the last remaining Ithaca Burger King also closing up, as reported by
