TOMPKINS COUNTY, N.Y.—The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office has reported several calls from residents about robocalls received from Tompkins County during which personal information was requested, allegedly to sign up for emergency notifications.
Tompkins County does use a mass notification system called Tompkins County SIREN that provides voice, text or email alerts, though sign up can only be done at www.tompkinscountyny.gov/siren or by texting SIREN to 67283 on a mobile device.
No personal information would be requested over the phone during the sign-up process.
Residents are asked to contact local authorities if they receive robocalls of this nature.
