Update as of 2 p.m. on Oct. 28: The Ithaca Police Department has confirmed that the victim of the stabbing that occurred this morning is deceased, and that the case is now an active homicide being investigated by IPD with assistance from the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office and the New York State Police.

The victim’s name is not being released at this time.

ITHACA, N.Y.—Officers from the Ithaca Police Department responded to a stabbing at approximately 1:15 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 28, near the Six Mile Creek Walk behind the Tompkins County Library and Cayuga Street Parking Garage, according to a SIREN alert sent early this morning.

Police are still on the scene, and other than the time of the incident, police have not released any other details. Acting Chief John Joly published a press release at 6:30 a.m.

Joly would not confirm the condition of the victim, but said an update will be released shortly.
