ITHACA, N.Y.—Ithaca police announced the arrest of one man on active warrants after a brief chase Monday afternoon.

Police said they saw James Kastenhuber, 32, who police said they knew to have warrants, on a bike and began to pursue him after he didn’t comply with their orders to stop.

Kastenhuber, police said, jumped into the inlet to avoid police and swam to the other side, near Nate’s Floral Estates. After some time searching, police eventually found Kastenhuber hiding under a canoe. The sheriff’s office and state police assisted with the search.

Kastenhuber was ultimately charged with resisting arrest for the chase, and taken into custody on a Class D felony of third degree burglary and a fourth degree charge of criminal mischief, a misdemeanor. He was remanded to jail after his arraignment by Judge Seth Peacock.
