Buffalo Street Books, Children’s Reading Connection, and community partners, Alphabet Soup and the Tompkins County Public Library are teaming up to bring arts, activities, and lots of read-aloud entertainment to Ithaca is Books Festival KIDS DAY, Sat. August 13th, from 11 am to 4 pm, at Dewitt Park at the corner of Buffalo Street and Cayuga Street, across from Buffalo Street Books. (The full four-day Ithaca is Books Festival is from 8/10 to 8/13, See below)
Children, families, and the whole community are invited to come together to enjoy words and stories around the theme of “Belonging Through Books”
Families will be able to walk and read the BIG BOOK of “Be Who You Are” by Todd Parr, with pages on lawn signs along the hedgerow at Dewitt Park. The book sets the stage as a backdrop for all-day book fun at Dewitt Park as part of Ithaca is Books Festival KIDS DAY
A full line-up of community members will read and sing books about welcoming, belonging, community, positive self-identity, and celebrating our differences while appreciating our shared humanity. The amazing line-up features John Simon and Cal Walker, our community’s own singing and reading book heroes, and many others who share their love of books and reading, and mother-daughter team, Christa and Chloe Nunez, Fall Creek School Pre-K teacher Ms. Sarah Smith, and Dr. Nia Nunn who will read books featured this year in CUMEP.

ALL DAY: BOOKMAKING, ARTS, & ACTIVITIES– ALL CELEBRATING BELONGING WITH BOOKS!Bookmaking, arts, and activities– all celebrating books and the Ithaca is Books Kids’ Day theme of “Belonging with Books,” will be set up under the tents to be enjoyed throughout the day. Arts and activities
include adding words to the Community Word Wall, word creating and collecting, self-portrait making with beautifully multicultural papers and markers, and adding words to the Community Word Wall.

Four-Day Ithaca is Books Festival 2022, August 10-13Ithaca is Books Festival is heading into year 2 with an exciting lineup of authors, readers, and fun events for four days, including a full Kids Day on August 13. Our goal is to bring Ithaca together around books, and we do so by working with community partners, including other bookstores and retailers, nonprofit organizations, presses, and more.
