ITHACA, N.Y.—With the Juneteenth holiday upon us, a slate of community events are on tap around the city to celebrate the holiday — with an extended weekend for some this year thanks to county and city decisions to make the event a holiday.

Southside Community Center will be holding and sponsoring a variety of events for Juneteenth from June 17 through 19, including a health fair and Juneteenth Celebration.

Calvary Baptist Church and Southside Community Center will co-sponsor a discussion about important health issues that impact the lives of Black men from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. June 17 at Calvary Baptist Church.

Southside Community Center will hold its annual Juneteenth Celebration from noon to 8 p.m. June 18. The community center is also co-sponsoring a health fair with Cayuga Medical Center, the Ithaca chapter of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Calvary Baptist Church and the Tompkins County Health Department from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. June 19 on the Commons in the Bernie Milton Pavilion.

Otherwise, “Walk and Talk: Black Ithacans in the Ithaca City Cemetery” is taking place on Saturday, June 18, organized by Historic Ithaca and highlighting the lives of notable Black Ithacans throughout the tour. You can register for the walk at the link above.

More events have also been covered previously here, when the city declared this week as Juneteenth week.
