ITHACA, N.Y.—At approximately 9:40 p.m. on April 7, the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the Target store at 40 Catherwood Road in Lansing for a reported theft.

Deputies spoke with Target employees upon arrival, and determined that a white male attempted to steal multiple items from the store.

When employees confronted the individual, he dropped the items and asked the employees if they wanted to fight, then pulled a knife out and backed an employee into a corner. The suspect fled the store without hurting anyone.

Deputies identified the suspect as 21-year-old Cedric Morais, of Ithaca, and at 10 a.m. on April 9, Morais was located at the Econo Lodge on North Triphammer Road, where he was arrested without further incident.

Morais was charged with robbery in the first degree, criminal possession of a weapon and menacing in the second degree. Morais was held for centralized arraignment and remanded to the Tompkins County Jail without bail.
