ITHACA, N.Y.—A water main replacement will close one block of East Buffalo Street near downtown Ithaca for a significant amount of time.

“An old water main at the end of its service life on the 500 Block of E Buffalo St. will be replaced with a new water main and be tied in to the rest of the existing main on Buffalo St.,” wrote the City of Ithaca in an announcement.

Work starts Monday, April 18 and will hopefully end Friday, June 17, according to the announcement. The block will be entirely closed to traffic, other than residents, for the duration of the work.

Part of the work includes Stewart Avenue reducing to a single lane from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., but only for the first week of construction, ending Friday, April 22.

The city lists East Seneca Street for westbound traffic and East MLK Jr. Street/ East State Street for eastbound traffic.

Water service will be temporarily interrupted for those in the 500 block of East Buffalo Street, though they will be notified by the city ahead of time.
