TOMPKINS COUNTY, N.Y.—New York State Senate candidate Leslie Danks Burke has received the endorsement of two prominent local labor unions in the race for the Democratic nomination.

The Tompkins-Cortland Building and Construction Trades Council, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 241, and the Laborers Local 785 all announced their endorsements of Danks Burke in a press release earlier this week. They come a few days after Danks Burke’s opponent for the Democratic nomination for State Senate District 53, Lea Webb, announced a batch of endorsements herself as the campaign heats up. Dr. Ammitai Worob is also running for the Democratic nomination.

“The Laborers are proud to endorse Leslie Danks Burke, who has stood shoulder-to-shoulder with the working families of New York for years,” said Dave Marsh, business manager for LiUNA Local 785. “We need to elect leaders like Leslie who will fight against corruption and Wall Street sellouts, and in favor of worker protections, fair wages, and healthcare access for all. Leslie is exactly the tireless advocate that we need in Albany, and the New York State Laborers’ Union is excited to help her get there.”

Todd Breuer, President of the Tompkins-Cortland Building and Construction Trades Council, also conveyed his support.

Danks Burke touted her labor bona fides in the announcement as well.

“For years, I’ve stood with unions and working people, marching the lines with Verizon workers and fighting for health care, fair wages, and benefits,” said Danks Burke. “I’m incredibly honored to earn this support from our hard-working labor unions. With corrupt Republican politicians and the downstate developers who own them at the helm, our beautiful region and the hardworking people who live here get left behind. As State Senator for District 53, I will be proud to stand with working families and fight for their voice in Albany.”
