ITHACA, N.Y.—Benjamin Daus, a freshman at Cornell University, died after sustaining injuries from a hiking accident during winter break, Ryan Lombardi, Vice President for Student and Campus Life wrote in an email to the campus community Wednesday.

Daus, who was originally from Flemington, New Jersey, had an affinity for biology, was a talented pianist, a member of the Big Red Marching Band, an avid traveler and a Cornell Tradition fellow, according to the email.

A community support meeting was held via Zoom on Feb. 3, 2022, and any students needing professional mental health support can call Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) at (607)255-5155.
