ITHACA, N.Y.—With the ongoing COVID-19 case fluctuation in part due to travel, Ithaca College announced that the Spring 2022 semester will begin with a week of online instruction in combination with an extended move-in period in an effort to keep its student population and the Ithaca community as healthy as possible.

The Spring 2022 semester will begin Jan. 24 fully online and in-person classes will begin the following week, Jan. 31. The announcement comes days after Cornell University made a similar decision, ensuring that students would not take in-person classes until Feb. 7 amid a slew of other changes to their spring semester start.

According to IC officials, beginning the semester with virtual instruction is designed to bookend travel and allow students who test positive shortly before or after traveling to isolate in their homes or on campus as needed while still beginning the semester on-time online.
