ITHACA, N.Y.—At approximately 7:20 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, 2021, the Ithaca Fire Department responded to a call on the 500 block of College Avenue to help an individual in Cascadilla Gorge. The individual was injured and in an unsafe position when law enforcement arrived and firefighters used a ladder and ropes to reach the victim and bring him to safety. Bangs Ambulance transported the individual to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Officials from the Cornell University Police Department, Ithaca Police Department and Cornell Environmental Health and Safety were also at the scene.

The rescue effort closed College Avenue for approximately an hour before it reopened.
