ITHACA, N.Y.—The Ithaca Police Department is investigating an incident that took place this morning in the West End section of Ithaca.

Ithaca Police Department Chief John Joly said the police responded to a report that “a male was threatened with a handgun.” Officers were not aware of the suspect’s location upon arrival, which led to the distribution of a Swift 911 notification to avoid the area due to police activity.

Police have not located the suspect, according to Joly, and no weapons were found at the scene either. Joly said more details would be published in a press release soon, and that they are asking for the public’s help as well.

Lehman Alternative Community Schools (LACS) went on lockdown for at least some portion of the day in reaction to the news, although there was no situation inside of the school at any time. Joly said the department notified the school because of the proximity of their investigation to LACS.
