ITHACA, N.Y.—Ithaca Police have released details of what they say is an armed robbery that took place on West State Street on Thursday afternoon. A suspect is not in custody, but the victim and suspect are known to one another, police claimed.

Police said in a press release that they received a report of a dispute in the 400 block of West State Street around 4:20 p.m. Upon arriving, police said they learned that a “male victim was approached by a male suspect who displayed two knives and began attacking the victim.”

While fleeing, the victim dropped a backpack he was carrying, which the suspect then picked up and left, according to the police. The suspect fled the scene in a vehicle east on West State Street.

The victim was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said. The investigation is ongoing, and police are asking for anyone with surveillance systems at their house or business to check if there’s any relevant footage. Witnesses are also being asked to come forward, and police said they can be anonymous.
