TOMPKINS COUNTY, N.Y.—COVID-19 has claimed the life of another Tompkins County resident according to the Tompkins County Health Department, which made the announcement Tuesday morning.

That brings the total death toll to 32 in the county, amid a wave of new cases that has seen 91 positive tests in the county since July 23. There are 71 currently active cases of COVID-19, though nobody is hospitalized. There had not been a COVID-19 death locally since April 28.

The health department still has not announced demographic information regarding how many of the positive tests are breakthroughs among people who have been vaccinated and how many have come from people who are not vaccinated, though they have said that analysis is underway. They are also awaiting sequencing results from Cornell University regarding how many of the new cases are from the Delta variant.

“Sadly, TCHD was notified of the death of a Tompkins County resident,” the department said. “The Health Department extends condolences to the family of this individual.”
