ITHACA, N.Y.—One block of East State Street will be blocked off for five days as construction crews mill and pave it, as well as construct an additional new retaining wall along the street.

The construction will impact the 400 block of East State Street, on its south side. It is slated to begin on Aug. 26 and last until Aug. 31, during which time both directions of traffic will be maintained but delays are anticipated. Crews will be milling and paving the uphill travel lane, and traffic will be shifted to the north side of the street.

“Most of the construction work will be performed from the south side of the new wall, which is the parking lot of the Gateway Commons property,” read the city’s press release. “However, due to some safety concerns related to the existing wall, the contractor will be immediately closing the sidewalk and bike lane on the south side of the street. Eastbound vehicular traffic will be maintained. People riding bicycles will need to merge into a shared lane with vehicular traffic. The sidewalk on the south side of the street will be closed and detoured to the north side of the street.”
