UPDATE 4:30 P.M. –– NYSEG is dealing with a downed transformer at the intersection of Cayuga Heights and Devon Road where traffic is blocked.

ITHACA, N.Y. –– After the National Weather Service announced that a special “severe thunderstorm warning” would be in effect until 4:15 p.m. Wednesday, reports of damage as a result of the afternoon storm have already started to come in.

The warning attached to the severe label includes the likelihood of damage from high wind speeds and flash floods. There are currently 258 people without power in Tompkins County, according to NYSEG.

As of 4:15 p.m. it has been reported that a power line knocked down a tree limb at the intersection of Farm and Linn Streets, and crews should have the roads cleared in a matter of minutes. Separately, there is also a power line down at the intersection of Stewart Avenue and Cayuga Heights Road, blocking traffic.

As well there are trees down mixed with trees in power lines on Hanshaw and Kline Roads, the 100 block of Hillside Drive and the 100 block of Needham Place.
