ITHACA, N.Y.—Ithaca Police announced Thursday that an Ithaca business is under investigation by the United States Department of Agriculture Office of Inspector General.

Ithaca Halal Meat and Grocery, on West Green Street, was the subject of an “investigative enforcement action” by the USDA and Ithaca Police Department earlier on April 1. According to police, the investigation was initiated after “large and recurring irregularities into the disbursement of federally funded benefits.”

Police said they are collaborating with the USDA on the investigation. IPD said the investigation is still ongoing. No more information was released, and police referred questions to the United States Assistant Attorney’s Office in Syracuse.
