TOMPKINS COUNTY, N.Y.—The Tompkins County Health Department announced Wednesday that another person had died from the coronavirus in Tompkins County, meaning there have now been 31 lives lost to COVID-19 locally since the pandemic began.

The death, reported by TCHD in their daily update Wednesday morning, is the first in Tompkins County since March 15. The health department did not release many details about who the victim was and whether or not they were in a nursing home. However, the health department has previously acknowledged when a reported death was a nursing home resident.

“Sadly, TCHD was notified of the death of a Tompkins County resident. The Health Department extends condolences to the family of this individual,” said TCHD in a statement.

Overall, there are now 55 active cases of COVID-19 in Tompkins County, with five people hospitalized. People interested can still sign up for this week’s vaccine clinic for everyone 18 and above at this health department link.
