UPDATE: Tompkins County Sheriff Derek Osborne has released the identities and related charges of those involved in the incident in Lansing.

ORIGINAL STORY:

LANSING, N.Y.—One person was killed last night and four people were sent to the hospital during a wild string of events that took place early Saturday morning in Lansing.

Police said they responded to a report of several gunshots stemming from a dispute near the 600 block of Ridge Road in the Town of Lansing at about 1:40 a.m. on March 13. The report included that the fighting groups had left the location in two cars.

About 10 minutes later, police went to the 500 block of Auburn Road in the Town of Lansing for a report of two vehicles that were off the road and “multiple injuries.” It was soon determined that the two vehicles involved in that report were the same as those that had been reported to be involved in the earlier dispute.

Police obtained video and interviews after arriving at the accident scene. Their narrative of the events is that the two vehicles left Ridge Road after the dispute and gunshots report, traveling north at high speed toward Auburn Road. While driving, both cars were exchanging gunfire with each other before both vehicles lost control, sending one into a telephone pole and another in the yard of a residence near the location.

One person was declared dead at the scene of the accident, though police weren’t prepared to say whether the person was killed in the accident, during the shootout or otherwise. Two people were airlifted to Robert Packer Hospital, one was taken by ambulance to Upstate Medical Center and one was taken by ambulance to Cayuga Medical Center. Updates on their status were not provided.

TCSO is asking that residents along that route check their houses for gunshot holes and are interested in obtaining any camera footage from that time period.
