ITHACA, N.Y.—Police have charged a Brooktondale man with two offenses after he left the scene of an accident Tuesday evening in downtown Ithaca around 8:30 p.m.

Police responded to a car crash in which the suspect’s vehicle had left the scene, but police were provided with a license plate number for the car. IPD located the vehicle as it was attempting to flee and pursued it to nearby Green Street in downtown Ithaca, where the car stopped.

The suspect was then assessed for intoxication and found to be intoxicated, then was taken into custody. A 9mm handgun was also in the car and the man, 57 year-old Warren Cooke of Brooktondale, is a previously convicted felon and thus does not have a permit to possess the gun. Cooke later submitted to a breathalyzer test, where he scored a .23% BAC, nearly triple the legal limit.

Cooke was charged with second degree criminal possession of a weapon and aggravated driving while intoxicated, as well as other traffic violations. He was sent to Tompkins County jail in lieu of bail or bond payments.
