ITHACA, N.Y. –– Crews are working to repair a water main break on the 100 block of East Lincoln Street. Repairs could take up to six hours, after which residents are advised to run their taps to clear dirty water.

For the entirety of the work the 100 block of East Lincoln St. will be closed to motor vehicle traffic between Utica St and N. Cayuga St.

Water service may be interrupted while the main is being repaired. Residents in the area may experience low or no water pressure. Once the work is complete, the system will be flushed which may result in brown or rusty water. At that time, residents are encouraged to run the cold water tap in their bathtub until the water runs clear. Do not run hot water as sediment could be drawn into the water heater. The City will notify residents if further action is required.

“Thank you for your patience and cooperation at this time,” the City of Ithaca said in a statement. They also ask that residents with emergency needs pertaining to the main break contact the Water and Sewer Division after-hours phone number at (607) 273-4680.
