ITHACA, N.Y, –– A car fire Wednesday night in the Town of Ithaca left one man’s vehicle completely destroyed. Law enforcement is currently investigating the cause of the flames.

According to the Ithaca Fire Department, no one was injured, but a Jeep Liberty was a “total loss.”

Emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene after a 911 call came in just before midnight during which a man stated that, “he may have hit something in the road and his car was on fire,” on Penny Lane in the Town of Ithaca.

Ithaca Firefighters found the car fully engulfed by fire, which they were quickly able to extinguish. Rescuers then used a thermal imaging camera to scan the area around and under the vehicle for a possible cause, but nothing was found. The Tompkins County Sheriff’s office was on scene assisting and is now investigating the cause of the fire.
