UPDATE: A Trader Joe’s spokesperson has confirmed to the Ithaca Voice that the store is opening very soon, but will not open on Feb. 5. An announcement is expected this week.
ITHACA, N.Y.—The long-awaited Trader Joe’s location on Meadow Street looks like it will be open before spring, according to several indications from around the internet—though official word from the company is hard to come by so far.
Produce industry trade publication and news site And Now U Know seems to indicate that Trader Joe’s will open in Ithaca on Feb. 5 at 9 a.m., though they cite a company-wide announcement that seemingly isn’t available on the internet (see update above denying this date). That being said, local news source 14850.com has now reported that they have learned the same thing. A request for more definitive information sent to Trader Joe’s corporate office has not yet been returned, though The Ithaca Voice will update when more information is available.
Right now, the Trader Joe’s official website says the store’s exact opening date is still undetermined, and the store’s listing on the company’s website states something similar (although it includes the info that the store will sell beer). An announcement, posted on Jan. 19, seems to tout that the newest site is about to debut.
“We’ve consulted our maps and compass and have found a terrific location for a store in Ithaca, NY. Our Crew is working hard so we can open our doors in 2021. We’ll continue to post new details about the store and its opening here, so please check back for updates,” states the announcement.
The store, located at 744 S. Meadow St., has been posting available jobs for weeks at the Ithaca location. Construction has been underway at the location for several months, with front-facing signage finally going up late last year. The company’s plans were first reported by Brian Crandall here in March.
