ITHACA, N.Y. –– Police are investigating after multiple reports of shots fired on West State St. Thursday evening.

Just before 5 p.m., several 911 calls came into Tompkins County Dispatch reporting shots fired in the area of Tompkins County Department of Social Services (DSS), at 320 West State St.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with several witnesses who said they saw a male firing a gun in the area before fleeing the scene in a vehicle. Witnesses reported that just prior to the gunshot a vehicle, occupied by four males, pulled into a vacant parking lot across from DSS, and one exited.

After exiting the vehicle, the male aimed down West State St. and reportedly fired one round before reentering the vehicle and leaving the area.

No injuries were reported as a result of this incident.

The suspect vehicle was described as a Dodge four-door sedan, light blue in color. The suspect was described as a black male, late teens to early twenties, wearing dark grey sweatpants, a light grey hooded sweatshirt and carrying a black backpack.

After canvassing the area, police were able to identify surveillance footage for review, and the investigation is ongoing.
