DANBY, N.Y. –– A church fire in Danby Monday night prompted mutual aid responses from several area fire agencies.

Shortly after 10 p.m. Monday evening, multiple calls were made to Tompkins County dispatch regarding a church on fire in Danby.

Danby and West Danby firefighters responded to the Gospel Church of Ithaca, located at 1435 Danby Road. Danby Fire Chief John Gaden immediately requested mutual aid assistance from Brooktondale, Newfield and Ithaca Fire Departments.
Ithaca’s South Hill engine 903 arrived on the scene to find a single-story building with smoke and flames visible. Firefighters knocked down the visible fire before entering the
building and extinguishing the remaining flames. Crews remained on scene for about two hours extinguishing remaining hot spots. No occupants or firefighters were injured, according to a release from IFD.
New York State Police and the Office of Fire Prevention and Control are currently investigating the cause of the fire.
