TOMPKINS COUNTY, N.Y. — Absentee, affidavit and in-person tallies have been taken and Tompkins and Cortland County Boards of Elections have issued unofficial results for the June 23 Democratic Primary.

Tompkins County Legislator Anna Kelles has extended her lead over the crowded field, though results from the state board of elections have not been updated, it’s safe to assume Kelles is now favorite to fill the seat of retiring Assemblymember Barbara Lifton.

District Attorney Matthew Van Houten came back from behind to hold onto his job. Van Houten’s challenger, Ed Kopko, had opened an early lead over the incumbent through in-person ballots, only for Van Houten to undo that lead through absentee ballots.

And two-time interim Ithaca City Court Judge Seth Peacock has won the job on a permanent basis after seeing off challenger Dan Johnson.
