ITHACA, N.Y. –– The annual Women Swimmin’ fundraiser to support Hospicare & Palliative Care Services just got a big wave of new revenue as a group of anonymous donors has agreed to match donations dollar for dollar until July 31.

The anonymous donors have pledged $50,000 to help inspire gifts to the fundraiser –– $45,000 of which will be used to match donations. The other $5,000 will be used for prizes and incentives.

Women Swimmin’ has traditionally been an in-person event where women fundraise for months leading up to a  swim across Cayuga Lake. But because of the coronavirus pandemic, Women Swimmin’ has instead created a “Go the Distance” virtual community event, happening now through Aug. 8.

Each participant has been asked to come up with an individualized activity, whether that be running a mile every day, kayaking across the lake or swimming laps on your own. Participants will work to achieve whatever goal they set for themselves while raising money for Hospicare. On Aug. 8, participants and the Hospicare fundraising team will come together virtually to celebrate their success.

Those interested in participating can register through their website. There is a $25 registration fee to participate. Once registered, you’ll be given your own participant page which you can customize to share with your friends, families, colleagues and other loved ones and ask for their support in helping you reach your goal and “go the distance for hospicare.”

Participants who raise $250, $500 or $1000 will be eligible for additional incentives still to be determined.

To donate directly without creating a team, you can follow this link or donate by phone at (607) 272-0212, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. You can also donate by mail by clicking here for a printable form to be sent to 172 East King Road, Ithaca.

Additional details are available on the Go the Distance homepage or by contacting Jen Gabriel at jgabriel@hospicare.org or 607-272-0212.
