ITHACA, N.Y. –– Police are investigating the origins of a fire at a residence in Collegetown Tuesday night, the second fire on East Hill that law enforcement has deemed “suspicious” in the last week.

At approximately 6:45 p.m. the Ithaca Police Department responded to the scene on Catherine Street. The Ithaca Fire Department was already on site and had extinguished a flame in a trash can on the porch of the residence prior to police arrival.

The origins of the fire are currently being investigated, but according to IPD Deputy Chief John Joly, the two incidents do not appear related.

“At this point, we have no reason to think they are connected,” Joly told the Voice on Wednesday.

Anyone with information regarding either fire are asked to contact the Ithaca Police Department.
