ITHACA, N.Y. — The New York State Department of Transportation awarded a grant to the City of Ithaca to fund 12 pedestrian safety improvements across the city.
Construction is not set to begin until the summer of 2021, with the city currently designing the improvements.
The city will install push buttons for crosswalks at three intersections on Buffalo Street and four intersections on State Street. Two intersections on Cayuga Street and one on State Street will receive new crosswalk signals. The city will also install crosswalk islands at the intersection of State Street and Eddy Street and on Stewart Avenue.
New York State awarded these grants through the Pedestrian Safety Action Plan project, a state program providing $110 million to install push buttons, upgrade crosswalk striping, and improve already-existing crosswalks across Upstate New York and Long Island.
