ITHACA, N.Y. –– In response to increasing concern over coronavirus, otherwise known as COVID-19, Wegmans announced Friday that they are reducing their hours in stores across New York state.

Wegmans will now be open from 6 a.m. to 12 a.m. The grocery store is typically open 24-hours a day. It is unclear when they will return to their regular hours. Wegman’s Brooklyn location is not included in the hour changes.

“This additional time will be used to clean our stores and restock products,” the company said in a statement.

Shelves at the Ithaca Wegmans on Meadow Street were noticeably bare as panicked shoppers began stockpiling supplies in preparation for a potential COVID-19 outbreak.

Wegmans addressed customer concerns about increasing demand in their statement Friday.

It reads, “know that we continue to receive shipments to our stores every day. Although we may not have every variety available, we are working hard to give our customers options in each category.”
