ITHACA, N.Y. –– County officials have asked residents to consider finding alternative means of supporting local businesses as Governor Andrew Cuomo announces the mandatory closing of all bars, gyms and theaters and restricting restaurants to take-out service and banning gatherings of greater than 50.

This comes after the government announced last week that bar and restaurant capacities be cut in half –– undoubtedly leading to lost revenue for local businesses.

One solution to combat the steep economic downturn is purchasing gift cards and ordering take out.

Here is a list of local businesses still offering gift cards and spending alternatives.

Bickering Twins gift cards can be purchased at the restaurant, by messaging Laura Phillips or via email at 

One Ring Donuts will be closed Monday, March 16 and Tuesday March 17 in order to strategize for the future. When they reopen, they’ll introduce their new “donut club” which will be asking folks to commit to a month of weekly donut 6 packs. More info can be found on their website. 

Moosewood will be closed Tuesday March 17 and Wednesday March 18. They will re-open on Thursday March 19 with a special menu available for delivery through Ithaca To Go or pick-up. Additionally, gift cards and cookbooks are available for purchase in-store and online. 

Gorgers Subs has take-out and gift cards available online or you can call ahead at 607-319-5046. Delivery is available through GrubHub and Ithaca To Go.

Thai Basil will remain open offering take-out, delivery and curbside pickup.  Orders can be placed by calling the restaurant directly at 607-319-4722 or online through Deliver Ithaca, Grub Hub, Eatstreet, Beyond menu, and Ithaca To Go.  In addition to their full food menu, beer and wine will be available for take-out and delivery.

Taste of Thai Express offers gift cards payable by phone and available for pickup with their new car hop service or by delivery. Call the restaurant for more info.

Oishii Bowl is open for pickup by 607-319-4119 and delivery service through Door Dash, Uber Eats, Grub Hub and Ithaca To Go.

Collegetown Bagels has delivery and curbside pickup available for any items at any of their locations. Visit their website for more information.

Luna Inspired Street Food has introduced a meal prep service through their catering site. The first official delivery day is Tuesday, March 17. Take-out is still available online or over the phone.

Lincoln Street Diner will offer delivery through Ithaca To Go as of Thursday, March 19.

The State Diner will be offering delivery through Ithaca To Go starting Wednesday March 18 at 9 a.m.

Dewitt Cafe has gift certificates for sale over the phone at 607-273-3473 or via email at They can take your credit card over the phone, or send you a PayPal invoice, and mail the gift certificate to you.

The Carriage House Cafe has take-out, gift cards and large family style to go via curbside pick up that can be ordered online from their website.

Shortstop Deli continues to be open for takeout 24 hours a day. Customers can call and order ahead at 607-273-1030, or order through Ithaca To Go.

Sweet Melissa’s will be having All You Can Eat Soft Serve Parties for people who donate to their fundraiser here. They are delaying their soft serve shop opening to reduce the risk of having long lines.

Ithaca Beer Company will have take-out, pick-up and curbside delivery at the taproom of their entire food menu, as well as beer purchases –– available to order by phone at 607-273-0766 during normal business hours Wednesday to Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 8:30pm. They are currently working out details with a food delivery service which should be operating by Wednesday (beer not included.) Gift Cards are always available, however, the company is also establishing an Hourly Taproom Employee Fund to help offset the financial impacts caused by the COVID-19 crisis. Purchase an Ithaca Beer Gift Card through their online store and 20% of your purchase will go into the fund.

Both Argos Warehouse and Bar Argos are closed currently. Gift cards are available for purchase at the inn, and they are looking into selling “to go” cocktails in light of licensing restrictions being lifted.

Ithaca Coffee Company has gift cards and coffee available in-store and online. 

Gimme Coffee has their products and gift cards available in-store and online. 

Press Cafe has take-out coffee and tea available 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. as well as whole bean coffee and brewing equipment. Gift cards are also available in-store, and online.

Cinemapolis has gift cards available on their website.

Trader K’s will be offering 25% off your total purchase, including sale items during the state of emergency.

Hangar Theatre Company has 2020 Summer Mainstage or KIDDSTUFF subscriptions available for purchase on their website. 

Mama Goose has launched a new online store. Purchases (including gift cards) can be made over the phone at 609-269-0600. Items will be posted on Facebook and Instagram. They’re also offering a personal shopping service, so customers call and request what they want. All Mama online purchases can be picked up at the store for free by calling and scheduling a time for pick-up.

Mimi’s Attic customers can shop online from their Facebook page or Instagram page. All purchases can be made over the phone (including for gift certificates) at 607-882-9038. They are also offering a personal shopping service, so customers call and be rung out over the phone. This includes new and used products. Items can be picked up in-store, or delivered through in-home delivery or curbside delivery. 

Alphabet Soup is staying open as long as the health department allows.  People can also shop online and select shipping or pick up in store. Orders for toys or gift certificates can also be done over the phone. Don’t forget to check them out on Instagram –– they’ll be posting a ‘Play of the Day’ on social media with ideas for parents to keep kids busy, creative and having fun while schools are closed.

Buffalo Street Books has temporarily closed their storefront while they prepare for curbside pick up, and delivery options. If you have placed a special order recently, you should receive a call to pick up those orders. BSB will arrange payment over the phone if they were not prepaid, and meet you curbside to give you your books. You can also still order books, starting March 17 by calling 607-273-8246 or emailing, to be shipped for $1 within the US,  or delivered curbside at prearranged times. BSB is also looking at options for free drop off within 5 miles –– watch their social media for more on that.

Breathe women’s clothing has $25, $50, and $100 gift cards available on their website. Any questions can be answered over the phone at 607-273-3700.

The Bloomwell has gift cards available for purchase online at They also hope to have ecommerce available within the coming days and will be offering curbside pickup as well.

Infinity Athletics are offering gift cards for training, online nutrition programming, video workouts, as well as online training.

Genes Barber Stylist has gift cards available for purchase in-store.

Transformations is still open as of now, but experiencing lots of cancellations. To help support stylists they are are offering 10% off gift certificate of $100, and 20% off gift certificates of $200 or more, and 30% off all retail products.
