ITHACA, N.Y. — Tompkins County Health Department release updated numbers on COVID-19 in Tompkins County on Friday that show that cases locally have nearly doubled.

That change is not a total surprise, New York state, on the whole, reported more than double the positive tests on Friday as they did Thursday, jumps local and state officials have said is to be expected as testing capabilities expand.

TCHD has sampled 56 more people since Thursday, while the amount of people in quarantine has jumped from 293 to 515. Nearly 100 people were released from quarantine on Friday.
