ITHACA, N.Y. –– The Ithaca branch of Denny’s diner has unexpectedly closed its doors.

A notice posted on the door of the restaurant reads, “it is of sincerest regret to inform you that Denny’s of Ithaca is unfortunately closed permanently.” It goes on to say, “we could not be more thankful for the opportunity to serve the wonderful people of Ithaca over the years.”

The building is in the process of being cleared out, with Denny’s signage already taken down.

The Ithaca Denny’s was in operation for six years, following the closure of a Friendly’s in that location.

The closure coincides with the company giving away free plant-based ‘beyond burgers’ in restaurants across the country on Thursday.

Denny’s has not responded with comment.
