UPDATE (12:33 p.m.) –– New York State Police at Ithaca have safely located 51-year-old Frederick A. Knapp of Lansing.
He was located not too far from his residence and transported to Cayuga Medical Center for a medical evaluation. According to state police, Knapp did not appear injured.
ITHACA, N.Y. –– New York State Police in Ithaca are searching for a potentially armed man after responding to a call at his residence.
51-year-old Frederick A. Knapp of Lansing, NY is approximately 5-foot 8-inches tall, weighs 120 pounds and was last seen wearing jeans and a dark gray sweatshirt. According to a press release this morning from state police, troopers need to check his welfare and make contact with him.
Law enforcement was originally dispatched to Knapp’s residence on Locke Road in the town of Lansing at approximately 7:45 p.m., Sunday night after a family member called 911 fearing that Knapp may harm himself and was in possession of a long gun. Knapp did not make threats to anyone else or police.
Early Monday morning, it was discovered that Knapp was not in the residence and troopers immediately began to search the neighboring area. According to state police, “his mindset is not known at this time.” He may or may not be in possession of a long gun or rifle.
Anyone who sees Knapp is advised not to approach him, and instead call 911 or Tompkins County Dispatch at (607)-272-2444.
