ITHACA, N.Y. — 1,160 NYSEG customers in Tompkins County are without power on Friday morning after severe thunderstorms took down trees and powerlines across the county on Thursday evening.

Route 79 was closed in both directions as crews addressed down power lines while the Tompkins County Department of Emergency Response urges people not to try and deal with downed lines themselves.

Utility crews are working to repair damage and NYSEG plans to have service restored to most customers in the City of Ithaca by 10:45 a.m. while some locations are still being assessed.

This is a developing story, check back for updates.
