WASHINGTON, D.C. — Southern Tier Rep. Tom Reed (R-NY) is recovering after collapsing Thursday before a television appearance in the Cannon House Office Building in Washington.

“It was a pretty hard fall,” Samantha-Jo Roth, a reporter for Spectrum who witnessed the incident told The Ithaca Voice. “He was conscious within 30 seconds of the fall and responding.”

Reed was taken by medical personnel to George Washington Hospital and his spokesman confirmed in a press release later that Reed is doing OK.

“Tom is in good condition, responsive, and being checked out by medical personnel following today’s fall,” spokesperson Will Reinert wrote.

It’s not clear what caused the fall. Reed collapsed on to the hard stone floor only moments before a live television hit on Fox Business Network.

In an update Friday morning, Reed issued a statement that said he was diagnosed with pneumonia.

“Thank you to everyone for their thoughts and prayers. After my evaluation by the doctors at George Washington University Hospital, it turns out I had a previously undiagnosed case of pneumonia. I look forward to returning to work on Monday,” Reed said in a statement.
