ITHACA, N.Y. — The Ithaca Police Department is investigating reports of shots fired around 4 p.m. in the area of the Chestnut Hill Apartments.
According to Chief Dennis Nayor, police are working to identify anyone involved. At about 6 p.m, Nayor said police have not found anyone injured and no arrests have been made.
Multiple people reported hearing gunshots, according to a news release from the IPD, and reported to police that they saw two black men, one with a handgun, fleeing toward Elm Street. According to police, one man was wearing a black jacket with a blue sweatshirt underneath and the other was wearing a gray sweatshirt.
Local schools initiated safety protocols due to the active police investigation.
