ITHACA, N.Y. — Curated by local photographer Jon Reis, “AVIATION” is a group exhibit of spectacular photographs of airports and airplanes. The exhibit is up through September at the Community Arts Partnership’s “CAP ArtSpace” on the Ithaca Commons.
The exhibit features Jon’s photos of aircraft hangars where aviators live and work with their airplanes. Jon has also invited artists throughout the US whose work he has long admired and includes: the work of Joe Pries, who has traveled the world photographing airliners landing and taking off with intriguing backgrounds, Jim Thrash, who is documenting the tails of Frontier Airlines at Will Rodgers airport in Oklahoma City, and Jeffrey Milstein who examines “The Jet as Art.” Local artist Barbara Page is also exhibiting paintings of landforms as seen from above.
Jon and Barbara will be on hand at the opening reception on First Friday Gallery Night, from 5 to 8 p.m. Sept. 6. The CAP ArtSpace is a program of the Community Arts Partnership (CAP) and is located within the newly named Ithaca College Gallery in downtown Ithaca at 110 N. Tioga Street. The exhibit is up through Sept. 29 and ArtSpace hours are listed at CAP’s website, ArtsPartner.org.
The exhibit is sponsored by Ithaca Aviation Heritage Foundation and the ArtSpace is sponsored by the Tompkins Trust Company. Make sure to visit the Tommy Plane at the adjacent History Center, and learn about “Tommy Talk 2019: A Visit with Amelia” at tommycomehome.org.
