ITHACA, N.Y. — A local man has been charged with robbery and menacing after police say he stole chainsaws from Lowe’s and threatened an employee with a hatchet before fleeing.

At about 11:25 a.m. Tuesday, June 11, officers from the Ithaca Police Department responded to a theft complaint at Lowe’s at 150 Fairgrounds Memorial Parkway, where they were told a man had just stolen chainsaws and several items, according to a news release. And when approached by an employee, police were told, the man threatened them with a hatchet before fleeing toward the area of the Jungle.

A short time later, they reported finding several of the stolen items outside of a tent occupied by 31-year-old Zachery Burlingame. Police say they obtained a search warrant for the tent and recovered about $1,300 worth of stolen property.

Burlingame has been charged with first-degree robbery and second-degree menacing. He was arraigned in Ithaca City Court and remanded to Tompkins County Jail on $11,000 cash bail or $21,000 bond. He is due to reappear in court Monday, June 17.
