ITHACA, N.Y. — Back by popular demand, Downtown Ithaca is hosting its second annual Fashion Week, a six-day showcase of the community’s diverse style and fashion resources. This year, Fashion Week will be presented by Tompkins Trust Company.
From April 8 through April 13, many downtown shops and boutiques will offer fashion focused evening activities featuring an assortment of the latest trends from ready-to-wear, handmade, vintage, or sustainable. There will be looks for everyone, youth to adult.
Among the activities is a self-guided walking tour of fashion exhibits at Tompkins Trust Company, Marriott on the Commons, and other downtown sites. The exhibits will feature some of the latest locally designed fashions and name-brand apparel sold at downtown shops and boutiques. There will also be a late-night shopping session at The Vintage Industry on Thursday, April 11. During this exclusive event, store owner and vintage clothing expert Marie Sirakos will take guests on a journey of hottest fashion trends from past decades.
Speaking of hot; SewGreen, Pastimes Antiques, The Cornell Store on The Commons, Breathe and many more shops will offer smokin’ deals on select fashions and accessories throughout the week. Make sure to check Fashion Week’s Facebook Event Page for a complete list of special sales.
Of course, no Fashion Week is complete without a runway fashion show featuring exclusive creations from our community’s highly skilled designers. On Friday, April 12 at 6 p.m., come to Center Ithaca to view some of the unique styles that are only available at Indigo Rose, Gee June Bridal, BodyGear en Pointe, SewGreen, Petrune, and other specialty shops about boutiques. This highly anticipated event will also include pop-up shops from 15 STEPS, F.Olivers, Home Green and Home and clothing displays from Gee June Bridal, Adrina Dietra and more. Fashion show guests will also be treated to flavored popcorn from F.Olivers. A cash bar serving wine and beer will also be available.
Fashion Week will conclude on Saturday evening with a party at Monks on the Commons where guests will be able to sip on special fashion-themed cocktails while enjoying live music from the extremely talented Cayuga Chamber Orchestra.
“Fashion Week is a prime opportunity for visitors to explore Ithaca’s vast and diverse fashion scene. Downtown is home to established and emerging clothing and accessories designers who handcraft high-quality clothing and specialty gowns and sell eco-friendly and fair-trade fashions for men and women,” says Allison Graffin, marketing director for the Downtown Ithaca Alliance, a not-for-profit community group charged with organizing and promoting downtown’s events.
For a complete listing of participating locations, grab an Ithaca Fashion Week guide which will be available at many downtown stores during Fashion Week. The guide also includes a walking map of participating locations, great shopping and dining deals, in-store specials, and more happening at downtown shops and restaurants only during Fashion Week.
