(Update April 12, 2019) – Judge John C. Rowley sentenced Adan Morrone to six months of incarceration and 10 years of probation after hearing a statement from the victim in Tompkins County Court on Friday, April 12. The judge also issued an order of protection, and Morrone will be added to the sex offender registry.
ITHACA, N.Y. – A 29-year-old Ithaca man accused of engaging in oral sex with a 14-year-old pleaded guilty in Tompkins County Court on Tuesday.
Adan Morrone was arrested by New York State Police in early February and arraigned in Ithaca Town Court on charges of second-degree criminal sexual act, second-degree rape and endangering the welfare of a child.
He pleaded guilty to second-degree criminal sexual act, a class-D violent felony carrying a maximum sentence of seven years of incarceration and 10 years of post-release supervision.
Prosecution and defense attorneys negotiated a plea deal with a recommended sentence of six months of incarceration followed by 10 years of post-release supervision. By pleading guilty, Morrone also acknowledged he will be added to the sex offender registry and subject to regulations including a prohibition on contact with minors.
During the plea hearing Tuesday, Morrone said, “she performed oral sex on me and I performed oral sex on her,” in early February in the Town of Ithaca.
He said he has been living in the Ithaca area for about four years, but lived in Amsterdam, N.Y. for part of that period. Morrone was arrested on drug charges in Amsterdam in 2017 and was sentenced to three years of probation after pleading guilty.
Judge John C. Rowley said additional time would not be added to Morrone’s sentence for a probation violation, based on the sentence recommended by attorneys.
Morrone has been in custody at the Tompkins County Jail since his arrest and was remanded without bail until his sentencing hearing, which is scheduled for April 12.
