LANSING, N.Y. — On Wednesday, investigators from the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office apprehended a suspect in connection with the armed robbery at Tops gas station over the weekend.

A suspect, whose identity is not being released due to age, was taken into custody at about 11 a.m. Wednesday. The robbery around the same time Wednesday was unrelated, according to the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office.

The identity of the second suspect is still being investigated.


UPDATE (Noon Feb. 19) — The Tompkins County Sheriff’s has released surveillance video of the suspects. 

LANSING, N.Y. — Local authorities are searching for two suspects who robbed the Tops gas station in Lansing on Saturday night. As of Tuesday, the sheriff’s office said the suspects have still not been identified.

The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office, Cayuga Heights Police Department, Ithaca Police Department and New York State Police responded to 2300 N. Triphammer Road for the reported armed robbery at about 9:49 p.m. Saturday. Two men reportedly entered the gas station, “displayed firearms and left with an undisclosed amount of cash,” the sheriff’s office said.

The suspects fled the scene traveling west behind the Shops at Ithaca Mall where they continued into a wooded area and eluded apprehension. The sheriff’s office said they obtained video surveillance and the investigation is ongoing.

Sheriff Derek Osborne said Monday that a barricade incident nearby at the Econo Lodge was unrelated.

The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office released video surveillance Tuesday from the robbery.
