ITHACA, N.Y. — A man has been flown to a regional trauma center after being stabbed several times Friday evening near the Ithaca Commons, police say.

Ithaca Police responded to the reported stabbing at about 6:30 p.m. Friday on the 100 block of North Cayuga Street. According to a news release, when police arrived on scene they found a man had been stabbed several times and was bleeding “profusely from the face and back.”

Bangs Ambulance responded and brought the man to a nearby landing zone where he was flown to a regional trauma center. The man was last known to be in “serious condition” at the trauma center, police said.

At 9 p.m., police were still on scene and had taped off an area on the 100 block of North Cayuga Street near the Clinton House, as well as the driveway beside the Clinton House. Investigators are interviewing people associated with the incident including several witnesses, the IPD said in a news release.

No suspect information has been released yet.

Members of the Ithaca Fire Department were also initially on scene.
