ITHACA, N.Y. — A New York State Police trooper and her young passenger were hospitalized Sunday night after police say a 23-year-old Ithaca woman struck the police car after running a red light.

State police said Molly J. Donovan, 23, of Ithaca, ran a red light at about 8:51 p.m. Dec. 9 at the intersection of State Route 13 and West Buffalo Street in Ithaca. Donovan was traveling east on West Buffalo Street when she struck the driver’s side of the marked trooper’s car, causing injuries to both the trooper and the trooper’s juvenile passenger, police said.

The trooper and juvenile were transported to Cayuga Medical Center where they were treated for their injuries. Both were later released. Donovan was treated at the scene of the incident by Bangs Ambulance, according to a news release.

Following the crash, police found suspected marijuana and cannabis oil in Donovan’s vehicle. Donovan was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor, and the violation of unlawful possession of marijuana. She was also issued a traffic ticket for failing to stop at a steady red signal.

Donovan was released on appearance tickets, returnable to Ithaca City Court.
