Are you tired of the same-old, same-old, politics-as-usual that seems to be running rampant in Tompkins County and New York State? It’s time for a change, and this is long overdue.
I’m supporting Josh Brokaw because of close knowledge I have with what goes on in the jail. Most people are there because they can’t afford the bail some of our so-called magistrates and justices impose. And regardless of why they’re there, some corrections officers always seem to know better what inmates really need. A classic example is in medical care. If you need a special restricted diet or need medical attention, you have to submit a written request to the CO’s, who then determine whether you really need it or not. CO’s are supposed to be guards, not doctors. And some of them have an “I have complete control over your life and there’s nothing you can do about it” attitude. This has got to stop! Not everyone sitting in a cell is a murderer, rapist or child molester.
I have never had a problem with the deputies or the road patrol men and women. They’re all true law enforcement professionals, but when the Sheriff and Under-Sheriff don’t get along, morale suffers. There’s something is wrong with a system like that. Like I said, it’s time for a change.
