TOMPKINS COUNTY, N.Y. — Tompkins County is converting to plastic pistol permit cards from the original paper format, according to the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office.

“We are thrilled to be able to have this available for the residents of Tompkins County,” Sheriff Ken Lansing said in news release. “Not only have we been able to align with the New York state standards, but have also been able to provide a more efficient service to the public.”

This transition is only for current New York State pistol permit holders who have a valid Tompkins County permit, however, current permit holders do not have to switch.

You can file to switch your permit by completing a form on the Tompkins County website.
