Fans of electronic and experimental music will be treated to a three-day concert event (The Big EZ) sponsored by The ElectroZone and The Cornell Sound Arts and Sciences Initiative. More than 25 artists, representing an eclectic variety of musical styles, will perform at Risley Theater, Cornell University on Oct. 12, 13, and 14.
Performers are drawn from the Ithaca, Cornell, and national electronic music communities. Noteworthy performers include local favorites Black Ops, TenderCruncher, and David Resig and nationally known artists Karl Fury, Adam Holquist, Charles Shriner, and Lyn Goeringer. Also performing will be internationally known electronic musician Bernhard Wöstheinrich.
Bernhard Wöstheinrich is an electronic producer, improviser, and painter. A graphic designer by trade, Wöstheinrich has created an eclectic body of work in both graphics and music with a keen interest in the intersection between abstraction and meaning. Performing solo as The Redundant Rocker, he has also collaborated with electronic musicians Ian Boddy, Erik Wøllo, and Tangerine Dream member Conrad Schnitzler as well as ECM artist David Rothenberg. Wöstheinrich has created numerous album artworks for labels like DiN, Unsung, Ozella, and Tony Levin’s Stick Men, and has exhibited his evocative paintings for the last 20 years.
A “Synth Petting Zoo” will provide a chance for musicians and non-musicians to have a hands-on experience with synthesizers. This function will take place on Friday, October 12 from 2 to 5 p.m.
The ElectroZone (https://www.facebook.com/ithacaelectrozone/) offers performance and education opportunities to the electronic music community. The Cornell Sound Arts and Sciences Initiative is a formative, cross-curricular effort to gather a multidisciplinary community of artists, engineers, biologists, social scientists, musicians, and others interested in sound.
