ITHACA, N.Y. — Do you know someone with a stand-out property? The City of Ithaca is seeking nominations for the 21st annual Pride of Ownership Awards, due Nov. 5.
The awards recognize the owners of city properties “who have developed projects or taken care of their properties in ways that enhance the physical appearance of city neighborhoods and commercial areas,” a news release said.
The awards are a joint project of the Ithaca Rotary Club and the City of Ithaca. The program was founded by former Common Council member Susan Blumenthal, who felt developers and property owners should receive recognition for work that went above and beyond the requirements of the project.
Last year, the winners included the new Ithaca Marriott on the Commons, Upson Hall at Cornell University, Elmira Savings Bank at 602 West MLK/ State St., Friends of the Ithaca City Cemetery, the Breazzano Family Center for Business Education in Collegetown, and 108 Parker St.
Past awardees have been nominated for maintaining character of neighborhoods, for restorations of old properties and for sustainable building choices.
People can nominate others or themselves for a wide range of projects.
“Projects may range from major structural work to small but significant improvements. Commercial projects, owner-occupied housing, rental housing, and institutional facilities (education, religious, government) are eligible. Awards focus on how properties appear from the street and public right-of-way, improve their local surroundings, and thereby improve quality of life for the city as a whole,” a news release said.
Nominations are due no later than 4:30 p.m. Nov. 5 at the City Clerk’s Office, 108 E. Green St.
